Some of you may have read my recent An Eyes Wide Shut Meets Burning Man Descent into New Year’s Eve 2012.
There is a sad epilogue. David “Owl” Koppelman was the friend who invited me to the party and we left early because we were both worried that he forgot to bring his inhaler with him. Owl died from an asthma attack on Feb. 18, 2012. I lectured him about his health that very New Year’s Eve and suggested to him that he take his anxiety about not having the inhaler with him as a portent and use it to form New Year’s resolutions regarding his health and especially his bad eating habits.)
See Owl in Memorium find out more about this fascinating and unique character.
My book Crossing the Event Horizon—The Singularity Archetype and Human Metamorphosis will be on sale very soon. Check zaporacle.com on Saturday for details. Click the title to hear a free podcast or to read the first 40 pages.
I listened to part of your segment. I have problems with your perceptions of the world. As an example, you group Sarah Palin in with the Bush family, while her whole political life has been about reforming government to stop people like the Bushs, Clintons and Obamas from using it for personal gain.
Over my lifetime I have read many thousands of statements on controversial subjects such as politics and religion. My reactions have ranged from total agreement to the opposite. Marcus, you have taken the crown for the greatest misperception of your subject of any that I have ever seen.
Marcus talking about psychopaths Sarah Palin could fall under that term.Just in case you don’t know she bailed out of our State to support her OWN agenda.
I was most interested in your definition of psychopathic personailities. I would have liked to have heard your definition of sociopaths and the dangers that both present to others. Also, I understand that neither of these conditions are curable, your comment on that. I would like to hear your thinking on conspiracy theory advocates, those that believe that George Bush blew up the WTC, that JFK was assassinated by LBJ, that the government knows all about foreign invaders to earth, but are concealing it. What is their problem that they cannot believe the truth, that there is always some clandestine group that is doing secret things that are concealed from everybody, but their suspicious minds. I call them whackos, would do you call them.
I would like to hear Mr. Zap’s assessment of those who believe every iota of information given to them, who think that every such thing is truth, is cut and dried, aboveboard, and precisely as related to them. What prevents them from examination on a deeper, multilayered level, especially regarding topics they themselves can neither prove nor disprove. Thank you.
Thank you for bringing out into the broad public this very salient point that some (or a number of) leaders in high positions of government and industry display evidence of mental deficits that lead to harm for people and the planet. Pathological or even terminal greed and power are ruining the planet. We need some system in place to evaluate these people once their actions reveal this disease, and better ways to remove them from office.
Johnathan,
Credibility???
Your article is very insightful, informative, important and appreciated. SIDE NOTE: On your home page, regarding the photo shopped picture of you and the tiger, you state that,(the tiger), “WAS NOT CHAINED UP”… If people then go click on your “About” tab on your website, there we will see the original photo taken of you and the tiger. In that photo, we can clearly see that the tiger is maxing out the length of the chain restraint. How could this be a forgettable detail? PETA person – I am not. Truth and credibility seeker — I am. Please clarify for all of us who appreciate these traits of integrity.
That tiger was being held by two or three feet chain leash by his trainer. Their relationship was featured on Animal Planet as they spent 24 hours a day together, swimming, sleeping in the same room, etc. Happiest tiger I ever saw and I worked for ten years for a non profit that saves tigers from guaranteed hunts, etc. That’s where the photo was taken.
Mr. Zap, I heard your interview on Coast to Coast. At first, I was very surprised that after stating your premise that it is very possible that most of our governmental leaders could be psychopaths; that you went on to state that you had read Barack Obama’s books and took the information at its face value and your conclusion was that it is the truth. Did you not even apply any of your theists, in a critical manner, nor even in a causal observation of Obama nor did you study Obama’s as a couple?
Did it not occur to you that all that is presented to us from this administration could be/is staged?
Everyone knows Obama did not write the books as he claimed.

what flavor of cool-aid is your favorite?
If you listen to the interview you’ll hear that I didn’t say anything about their veracity. What I said is that the author appeared to have a full range of emotions and, therefore, probably not a psychopath. Not impressed with silly claims that he didn’t write the books.
Jon: I’ve been a book editor for more than 30 years. Ghost writers are much more abundant and active than the general populace would know or believe. I have no idea whether Obama wrote his book himself, but I’m sure his editor–and copy editor–know the truth, whatever it might be. Shocking though it may seem, many famous authors are (a) less astute, intelligent, & articulate than they appear and (b) not the true tellers of their tale. It’s a fact that I find, especially as an author, very disappointing but all too common. So, the claim is, I think, more in the realm of the commonplace than the ludicrous.
