They will monotonously insist on the oneness of everything no matter what is being discussed, and use this obvious reality as a way of leveling all difference, distinction and discernment. This point of view can be even more limiting than the tunnel vision of the reductive thinker, since at least the reductive thinker is still thinking about and investigating something, no matter how much they miss the infinite, interelated context of the something. This type of New Ager, however, takes oneness as a truism that relieves them of the need for thinking, discrimination and discernment and pulls oneness out of a hat, like the most tired of magician’s rabbits, whenever any issue requiring discernment appears. Recognizing that individuals or groups that are in conflict are part of the same oneness is crucial, but it is also crucial to recognize their individual differences and what sets them apart. The great American pioneer psychologist William James wrote more than a century ago that besides the oneness of things, anyone who glances at the phenomenal world should also be struck by the eachness of things. We see a world of unique individual trees and people, for example, and not an homogenous mass of treeness or undifferentiated pool of humanity. The androgynous mind recognizes that there is both oneness and eachness, these are the two poles of the paradox that must be held in mind to understand both interrelation and individuality. Quite often the same person who is a proponent of the oneness of things will unconsciously switch to reductive dualism and the next minute be preaching to the choir of like minded friends about the badness (and implied otherness) of corporations, environmental destruction, etc What is really maddening is talking to the New Age person who, if they are not preaching about the oneness of things, are telling you about the badness and wrongness of everything they don’t like (That was from Casting Precious Into the Cracks of Doom-Androgyny, Alchemy, Evolution and the One Ring)

Jonathan Zap Besides oneness abuse, another annoying cliche of expression and typography that irritates me as an English teacher is the abuse of all capitals as in: “FIRST LOVE IN ALL THINGS – ONENESS!!!!” . You can always tell when someone is getting absolutist on you when they start TO USE ALL CAPS TO SHOW THAT THEY HAVE THE ULTIMATE TRUTH!!!!!.

Alexis From my perspective (which is all any of our sharings are) The beauty of the oneness and the eachness is that neither of you is wrong in your stance. Just speaking the truth of your experience. If Thoth preached oneness and then couldn’t hold that vibration in his persepctive he would truly be hypocrite (and we all are at times anyway). What he shared is in line with his practice. And why not name ourselves in the vibrations of what we want to resonate with? We need not kill our ego, just keep learning to make choices to bring in line with the highest good for all. Holding any name is a sign of ego…. if Thoth Ra wants to put his vibration out in that particular wave~ripple than I, personally, appreciate that every time I hear it.

Jonathan Zap I have to say as distracting as this forum or whatever is has been I’m grateful for such classic specimens of what’s gone off the rails with New Age thought. One part of the green meme is that not everything is relative, and not everyone’s opinion is a valid as another’s. A neurologist’s opinion about a brain tumor is likely to better informed than that of a hockey player, for example. Also “Ra” is a classic poster child for inflation and deranged absolutism. Notice he gives an absolute choice—either he’s a petulant adolescent or he’s an Egyptian Sun God or something. No, we are all both, we all have a small side and a cosmic side. The inflated person is one who has been exposed to some archetypal contents from the collective unconscious, naively identifies with them, takes ownership of them, and becomes hugely inflated until, in an extreme case like this, they come to think they are a God. Jung called them “those terrifying invalids who think they have a mission to save the world.” They have underestimated the trickster side of the unconscious and become possessed and “permafried” by the collective unconscious making themselves into annoying wing nuts who have to constantly proselytize in a vain effort to show the world that they are who they fantasize themselves to be. Between the two choices given, clearly the petulant adolescent wins and this is shown in the classic teenage rebellious act of writing in all CAPS because I said not to!

Thoth Ra I choose the so called “deranged and inflated”! There is only GOD, manifest in a myriad of forms! And WE are THAT! A Microcosm of the Macrocosm. You are a Master at dishing out vileness and judgment. Try Mastering the art of Blessing and Allowing each in their path. You will be much happier! And with that, I choose silence on this matter!
